It's Finished!!

**Warning, this is a photo filled post**  I am so excited to have this quilt finished.  This was the 2012-2013 Fat Quarter Shop Mystery Block of the Month using Vintage Modern by Bonnie & Camille.  I have spent the last week, off and on, hand stitching the binding down.  I love the look of hand sewn binding and since this quilt is staying in my house (that's right, I made myself a quilt!) I had to hand sew the binding down.  The tag is made and will be sewn on this afternoon.

1930s

I had a pretty big stack of scraps from this quilt taking up space sitting in my fabric closet.  The fabrics are not my normal color pallet so there were no other projects that I could thrown them in to.  I saw this pattern and knew what I was going to do with those scraps.  After cutting them into squares, I realized that I didn't have much in the green or purple/pink colors and headed off to my local quilt store and picked up three half yards.  I also ordered a 1930s Bella jelly roll and some white fabric to make the four patches.  Rather than making one large quilt, I am making two lap sized quilts as gifts for Christmas this year...one down, one to go.  There is some cute fabric that is coming out in August that I am going to use for the backing along with some orphaned blocks from the original quilt.

Chevrons

The fabric is cut out and ready to be sewn together to make the chevron quilt to be auctioned at the Alpha Phi Red Dress Gala in October.

WIP Wednesday

I am making four of these quilts for Christmas gifts this year.  The pattern is L7 by Me and My Sister Designs and the quilt kits were purchased here.  My sister, brother, parents and I will all have the same quilts and I am adding a grey ribbon to them as well.

Cutting

I have cut the fabric out for the Impromptu Along.  I have to cut all my background fabrics later tonight.

I have to say I was a little disappointed with my layer cake.  Don't get me wrong, I love the fabrics, but there were several 10 inch squares that weren't squares.  They were rhombuses and it's a little hard to cut 5 inch squares out of a 10 inch rhombus.  This is the first time I have ever had this problem.  I am going to have to pay close attention when I start piecing to make sure I make things square.

Infinity scarf finished

My aunt gave me this yarn and pattern back in May.  With recent travel for work sewing is not possible so I have been knitting.  I was a little worried that I was going to run out of yarn....less than 4 inches was left.  Talk about skin of your teeth finish!!

The pattern is Summer Wind by Irish Girlie Knits and the yarn is 100% super wash merino, fingerling weight.  I used a whopping 400 yards!!  From the tag, the color is cherry blossom (pinks and oranges) Baah! La Jolla Original Hand painted from A Yarn Less Raveled in Danville, CA.

An extra bonus is that this scarf was knit on a pair of my Grandma's knitting needles.  She moved into a nursing home in December and I have inherited  her knitting patterns, WIPs and supplies.

Baby Quilt

I finished this baby quilt last Thursday and dropped it off to the quilter when I picked up my 2012-2013 Mystery Block of the Month quilt.  I am not normally a panel user, but this one was too cute to pass up, especially since this quilt is going to be for my new niece of nephew in the fall.  My brother and his wife live in Boston and were married on the beach...so it is quite fitting for them.

Don't you just love the turtles?  Since the piecing on this one is so simple, I decided to have it quilted  with anchors.  I can't wait to show you the final quilt, it is going to be so stinkin' cute!

Non-quilty stuff

I link up with Fabric Tuesday as often as possible over at Quilt Story and today they posted a link to their Uncle's video to win a spot in the Kona Ironman.  His story is near and dear to my heart...my Dad had a glioblastoma multiforme removed on March 18, 2013.  Please vote for Dean to win a spot.

While we all like to think that we or our family members can beat cancer...glioblastoma is another story and is a hard, hard battle once reoccurrence happens.

Doll Quilt for a Soon-to-be Big Sister

My little sister from the sorority in college is having a baby boy in a few months.  His quilt is almost finished...just need to hand sew the binding on and wait for him to arrive so I can make a tag with his birth stats.  Every Big Sister needs to be remembered when a new baby comes along, so I made a quick and easy doll quilt using Twirl by Me and My Sister Designs.  I love, love, love the backing fabric!

I am linking up with Finish it Friday.

Craftiness

Not a whole lot of sewing this week since I had to travel for work.  I do have to take photos of two finishes but it has been so rainy and dreary that I need to wait.  Since I was flying this week, I brought along some knitting and I love this pattern, although I did manage to get it twisted in the first row or so, but it is still super cute.  The pattern is called Summer Wind by Irish Girlie Knits Designs and is knit in the round.
