A quilt for a baby girl

While on face.b.ook one afternoon I noticed that my cousins and aunt had all posted on a particular page regarding a little girl.  I was curious and clicked on over to her profile and read her story.  She is an incredible little girl that is just 2 months younger than my baby girl.  My heart ached for her and her family and the incredible battle that they are fighting on behalf of their littl girl.  Their strength and devotion to God is amazing and such an inspiration.  I periodcially checked back, following their story and kept up with their Car.ing Brid.ge site as well.  I finally sent a friend request and have been following their story very closely.

Their little girl is in and out of the hospital a lot and as a volunteer quilter for Quilts for Kids, Inc. I knew that this amazing little girl deserved a quilt.  I reached out to my Aunt and told her what I wanted to do.  She was incredible supportive and provided me with the address for the family so I could mail the completed quilt.

I picked ladybugs because this little lady's first birthday was ladybug themed and her Car.ing Brid.ge site had been ladybug themed for a while.  Here are the photos of the finished quilt.  The little ladybug received her quilt right before her last hospital stay.  I hope the quilt can bring some comfort and brightness to this family and their daughter.  They continue to amaze me.

12th Block Finished

I finished the 12th block tonight during the opening ceremonies...I have to admit that I was not impressed. Anyway here is block number 12. I also discovered that I only made 1 copy of a particular block...no biggie. 23 down and 1 to go. I think I am going to cut the borders, sashing and binding this weekend :)

My Purple Quilt Top is finished

You may remember awhile back I posted about the purple quilt for my Grandma. When I purchased the fabrics, I purchased her favorite color not realizing that purple is also the Alzheimer's disease ribbon color.

It makes me sad to know that she is forgetting things and will soon not remember who I am. She remembers that I am married and my oldest K, but she does not remember my youngest N. Thankfully N is too little to know that.

My Grandma is at the horrible stage of disease progression where she remembers that she doesn't remember. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be. I pray that they find a cure and/or better treatment options so future generations don't have to deal with this awful disease.

The backing is also a purple Me and My Sister designs Amelia print. I am quilting with a variegated purple and will be binding with the dark purple stripe. I will post finished photos later this week.

I am linking up to Fabric Tuesday over at Quilt Story.

Friday Finishes and My Traveling Quilt

Sorry, no photos....we are traveling and my sewing machine did not make the must pack list. Fabric to cut did make that list.

I am excited that I finally finished cutting out the remaining 2 blocks for my Christmas block of the month (you know the one that I started in 2010?). I am planning on cutting the borders and binding this week while we are at the beach.

I also cut out my first block for the 2012 block of the month!!! I love the Vintage Modern Fabric!!

I also worked on my traveling quilt. I decided to start taking photos of stars while we travel. I'm going to have to do some photo editing since I forgot to take a photo in Arizona.

Solids Challenge with my local modern quilt guild

Sneak peak at my fabric choices

Fabric Tuesday

I finished quilting this quilt just about 1 week ago before I left for my amazing child-free and husband-free sorority trip to Arizona.

Back in 2010 while I was pregnant with N, my cousin was also pregnant with her first child.  Our babies were supposed to be about 5 months apart.  Little did we know that her daughter would be born just 2 months after N weighing in just over 2 pounds and 14 inches long.  K spent almost 3 months in the NICU before she was able to come home.

During her stay in the NICU, her parents decorated her incubator with receiving blankets.  Just after her first birthday, her mom asked me to make a quilt out of the receiving blankets.  The large squares in the quilt are K's receiving blankets and the 25-patch blocks are made with Twirl by Me and My Sister Designs.  I quilted with white thread in a meandering pattern.  The quilt is all washed up and snuggly and will be delivered to K next week.  I can't wait to see photos of this happy, healthy, almost 2-year old with her new quilt!!

The quilt is twin sized or a double coverlet.
