WIP Wednesday

I am making another oversize churn dash quilt to take to the Brain Rehabilitation Unit and am getting rid of fabric in my stash.  I was able to cut up all the blue fabric from a quilt challenge I didn't participate in, but bought the fabric.  I also used up white that I had.  I ordered the grey and the awesome baby whales for the backing.

Just need to add sashing to this one and I will baste it up with scrap batting (yeah for cleaning up for a good cause!!)

WIP Wednesday

I have 2 more baby quilts in the works for the Brain Rehabilitation unit.  I have one partially quilted and another flimsy ready to be quilted.

I love the little elephants on the backing.

WIP Wednesday

I am making a quilt to be auctioned over at Charlotte's Grace for a Cure.   The proceeds will benefit brain tumor research.

The quilt is going to be a twin size with Kate Spain's Honey Honey fabric line...it is going to be slightly larger, but a near twin, to the quilt I made for my daughter's third birthday.  I am piecing using grey thread for my top thread since the quilt is raising money for brain tumor research.

WIP Wednesday

I had high hopes of finishing this quilt last week and then my 3 year old got sick and wanted snuggles from her momma all day.  How can you say no to snuggles?

I am hoping to finish up the top this week and get it basted and quilted this weekend so I can start a quilt for a brain cancer auction.

My rows are all sewn, just need to be ironed and pieced together.

Solid Chevrons

As I have previously mentioned I am a chapter advisor for a sorority and our annual Red Dress Gala is this weekend.  I have had stacks of solids cut for about 2 months but have been so busy with work, exams for work and back to school that I haven't touched this quilt in awhile.

I started back at it yesterday morning and have 3 rows sewn together and another 6 rows pinned and ready to be sewn.  The quilt is 10 half square triangle blocks wide and I'm thinking it will be 12 rows long...pretty decent sized.

Once all this rain goes away I'll take some better photos and here's hoping I make the Saturday deadline.  The colors are all Kona solids...white, marine and orange.  Starch has definitely been my friend with all the bias edges :)  I used this tutorial.

A quilt for an almost 3 year old

My almost three year old is very opinionated and knows what she likes  and what she doesn't like.  She has been asking  for a pink and orange quilt for quite some time as those are her favorite colors.  I came across the line Honey Honey and she decided that she loves it even if it had other colors besides pink and orange.

I needed a quick and easy pattern as August is very busy for us and her birthday is in early September.  I am using a pattern from the Moda Bakeshop using a dessert roll with a slight pattern modification to make it a bit wider.

1930s

I had a pretty big stack of scraps from this quilt taking up space sitting in my fabric closet.  The fabrics are not my normal color pallet so there were no other projects that I could thrown them in to.  I saw this pattern and knew what I was going to do with those scraps.  After cutting them into squares, I realized that I didn't have much in the green or purple/pink colors and headed off to my local quilt store and picked up three half yards.  I also ordered a 1930s Bella jelly roll and some white fabric to make the four patches.  Rather than making one large quilt, I am making two lap sized quilts as gifts for Christmas this year...one down, one to go.  There is some cute fabric that is coming out in August that I am going to use for the backing along with some orphaned blocks from the original quilt.

WIP Wednesday

I am making four of these quilts for Christmas gifts this year.  The pattern is L7 by Me and My Sister Designs and the quilt kits were purchased here.  My sister, brother, parents and I will all have the same quilts and I am adding a grey ribbon to them as well.

WIP Wednesday

I saw this fabric at my local quilt shop and fell in love with the panel and the backing fabric.  My brother and his wife are expecting their first baby in the fall and they were married at the beach and live in Bost.on.  I thought this fabric was perfect and scooped it right up in case they have a boy, if not, this quilt will wait for the next baby boy that comes into my family.

The fabric is Seaside Holiday by Benartex.  Thank God for Etsy because that is where I found the backing fabric.

WIP Wednesday

Every year I make a quilt to be auctioned at the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi's annual Red Dress Gala which raises money for the Alpha Phi Foundation, an organization near and dear to my heart.  I have made red dress themed quilts the past two years and decided to change it up a bit this year.

The Alpha Chapter is located at Syracuse University so I am making a blue and orange chevron quilt and backing the quilt in the whimsical orange fabric since they are the Syracuse Orange.

WIP Wednesday

Look at this stack of lovelies....I bought this quilt kit about 2 years ago and cut the fabric out, made the blue and green stacks and there it sat in my fabric closet.  With all the gloominess that has been in my life recently, I needed to sew something bright and fun.  I finished sewing all the strips together and cutting them out.  The first two rows are all sewn together and my youngest daughter has already staked her claim to this quilt once it is all finished up.

The fabric is Dilly Dally by Me and My Sister Designs and the pattern is Easy as 9, also by Me and My Sister Designs.

WIP Wednesday

It may not look like a lot, but for my current place in life this is a lot and it means progress/coping with the challenges that my family is facing. I cut out the fabric for the March and April Mystery Block of Month blocks. I will setup my machine again and sew tonight.

My Dad is my biggest fan regarding my quilting and has always encouraged me and shown off my work to friends and coworkers. By not sewing right now I am letting him down and letting cancer win...he isn't letting cancer win so why should I?

I am still struggling with all of this....struggling a lot. I have good days and some really bad days. He was just ruled ineligible for a trial he had enrolled in because he got a stupid blood clot in his leg. No one knows why because he was up and walking less than 24 hours post op and had those inflatable boots on before that. I just want him to catch a break...I want him to respond to the chemo and radiation and I want him to be part of the 3%!
