Knitting

I found a free pattern for little knitted star ornaments.  I bought some inexpensive sparkly yarn and love these little star ornaments.  I've made three so far.  I think I want to make a garland of red, white and blue sparkly stars to hang for Memorial Day and the 4th of July.

I sent a star to my aunt and another to my mom.  My girls said we need to keep this one.

Baby doll sewing

I made my niece a little purse for her birthday and we got her a baby doll as well.  Her baby needed a place to sleep so I made her a sleeping bag for Christmas.  This one came together fast with strip piecing with some fabric I had on hand.  It was big box fabric that I purchased before I knew about quilting fabric 😊

I have enough strips for another doll sleeping bag...I just need some lining fabric.  And yeah to using up fabric and batting scraps.  I'm slowly running out of batting scraps!

Scrap busting

I made a quilt for my MIL 3 years ago using 1930's prints and had a ridiculous amount of scrap fabric leftover.  I made 2 lap quilts with some of the scraps and 4 patches.  I still have scraps leftover.  Honestly I'm not a huge fan of 1930's fabrics...not really my color palette so it's not like I can incorporate them into other quilts.

Instead I'm making yet another lap quilt with the scraps.  I did have to purchase 3  prints to balance the colors out.  My Grandma's birthday is in a few weeks so this one is going to her.

Baby Doll Beds

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my husband and I tag teamed and made doll bunk beds for our girls for Christmas.  He made and stained the beds and I made the bedding for each of the beds.

USPS dropped the ball on the fabric for our oldest's bedding so she received a quilt that didn't have the binding sewn down.

I used 1/2 inch foam for the mattresses and made simple pillowcase type "sheets" for the beds.  I had grand ideas of making actual sheets with elastic but with the thin foam mattresses it was an epic failure (on the evening of December 23rd).

The girls loved their beds and immediately brought their babies down stairs to begin playing with them.

The first set of bunks went to our youngest, complete with a trundle.  She has Bitty Twins and Bitty Baby so they all needed a spot to sleep.  She is obsessed with pink and orange so I scoured Etsy and found a quilt kit with Kate Spain's Honey Honey fabric and ordered it for her bedding.  I also ordered some extra pink and orange flowers to back the quilts.  The bedding also happens to match the quilt that I made her for her 3rd birthday.

This set of bunks is for our oldest.  I am very thankful that I keep a shoe box of pre-made binding and happened to have a "spool" of Me and My Sister Designs scrappy binding.  The quilts are made with a charm pack from the new Bandana line that is being released and the sheets/backing are made with a very pretty print from LOL.  I love that all their fabrics play so well together.  She does have pillows for her dolls as well, but I am not sure where they landed in the chaos after Christmas.

Finished Momma Quilt

Here are some photos of my youngest daughter's "Momma Quilt" that she requested for Christmas.  She was so excited to open it and requested that she be allowed to being it in the car for our Holiday travels.

The backing was a happy mistake.  I might have a "problem" with Bonnie and Camille fabrics and had just enough yardage of this one for the backing.  I couldn't find the original fabric that I had purchased for the backing and I am quite happy that I couldn't find it.  This backing suits the quilt far better than the original I had purchased.

Pillowcases

I finished the last Halloween pillowcase and made 2 Christmas pillowcases for our friends' children.  She had seen photos of similar pillowcases that I made for my neice and nephew...I told a little white lie that I couldn't get the fabric anymore since I knew we would be spending New Year's at their house 😊
